Data: NYC DataMine

NYC DataMine is like a data centre which supplies many sets of public data produced by City
Agencies and various City organizations. These data sets are available in a variety of machine-
readable formats and are continuously updated.

This initiative was taken by the City of New York to improve the accessibility, accountability and
transparency of the government. Data is presented by categories, organizations, etc. Descriptions
of the data, the collection method and the metadata makes the datasets easier to understand.

Anyone can use these data sets to participate in and improve the government by conducting research
and analysis or creating applications. This can help in gaining a better understanding of the services
provided by the City Agencies and improving the lives of citizens and the way in which the
government serves them. The only requirement is that the user should agree to the 'Terms of Use' presented on the Web Site.

Some of the participating organizations in this initiative are :
-New York Public Library (NYPL)
-Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB)
-Department of Education (DOE)
-Department of Finance (DOF)
-New York City Fire Department (FDNY)

..... and many others. The user can also suggest/upload datasets on the website, after it is reviewed.

The public datasets can be downloaded from their website at http://www.nyc.gov/html/datamine/html/data/data.shtml
