Reaction: The Value of Information Visualization

The Value of Information Visualization provides some interesting insights into the importance of visualization. What I find particularly interesting is how our cognitive process allow us discern and extract important information magnitude faster than than analytical thinking. In combination with our perceptual support, I'm interested in learning tricks to further take advantage of our innate ability to infer information quickly and accurately through visualization.

Question: At the end of the paper, the author attempt to calculate the benefits of visualization by framing the problem as a mathematical equation. In particular, the variable Ce (cost of user) stood out to me. I wonder if such variable can be measured in such a scientic way given the near infinite amount of possible combination.
