Reaction: Balancing Systematic and Flexible Exploration of Social Networks

This paper discusses about the Social Action tool developed by Human Computer Interaction lab researchers from university of Maryland. The primary purpose of this tool is to analyze the social network more systematically and yet flexible.

The paper is well formatted which starts with an introduction to the SNA and the difficulty in analyzing the social networks. Followed by an explaination to the current tools and the flaws associated with it and how SocialAction overcomes it by using various methods like ranking social networks, filtering the rankings, comparison with scatterplots.

This video (http://vimeo.com/7308004) shows how to use Social Action tool.

I felt that more information on the implementation might have helped to understand the tool more. But overall this paper explains the flaws of the current social networking analysis with the current systems and ways to overcome it.
