This visualization was produce by the Android development team, and posted in their official Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/androiddevelopers) on February 21st, 2011. No absolute values are given, nor the scale of the bars (graph in the bottom); other than that, it provides a good view of the explosion of Android Activations when a new “flagship” phone is released. The data is not public, but every once in a while they post the total number of activations so far.
The sharpness and opacity of the bars was tweaked to achieve a desired result. The camera is also moved very slowly, this appears to serve an aesthetic purpose only. There is no clues about the tool used, but in my experience this could be done using Adobe After Effects.
