I just happened to stumble upon this visualization in the official cnn website. It gives details as per the 2010 census regarding the regions in America to which the population migrated over time.

It also has additional informational about highest and lowest population. Also there are tags on the places where there is an i-coverage of cnn and the places where stories have been covered by cnn.
