When it comes to the benefits of brand loyalty, there are few companies that can beat college football.

That’s right, whatever else it might be, college football is big business. And just as surely as the bottom line at a company such as Apple Inc. benefits from a loyal following of devoted customers, university athletic department coffers get filled, thanks to the thousands of passionate fans who root for the schools.

While the Triangle is better known for college basketball, football generates huge sums of revenue for the local schools...
