Human perception, its impact on visualization and how the understanding of human perception applied to visualization methods has made them more effective over the years is the main contribution of the paper. The sample illustrations for theories of preattentive were very useful and helped in quick understanding. I found the theory of feature integration especially appealing. It helped me put in perspective the discussion we had in class last spring (the mobile grapics and interaction design course) about how this principle could be used in mobile displays for quick recognition in icons. I could fully appreciate how this research field has far reaching effects on so many allied fields that incorporate visualizations.
